I screened The Crowd today in class--on laser disc. I don't think the students were prepared for the disc change midway through, even though I warned them. There's surprising gaps in film availability--I can't believe I have Lois Weber's Hypocrites on DVD (although I'm pleased it's available) but so many silent/classical Hollywood films are unavailable--like a decent technicolor print of Becky Sharp.<br /><br />Also watched clips from a horrid VHS/public domain transfer of Our Dancing Daughters and an equally horrid dvd of De Mille's Manslaughter.
