Cary Grant's Tuna Fish Pie

My lovely work colleague Kim came over last night for a trying on session and Cary's Pie. We are going to an awards ceremony next week and Kim wanted something vintage to wear. My wardrobe was raided, many frocks were paraded up and down the landing and a decision was made. Well, a choice of two actually. I think she should go with the Joan Crawfordesqe black number that I bought to wear to the Brits - it looked amazing on her. We are about the same size and shape so we may just swap frocks halfway through the event!

Man, we put the world to rights last night over two bottles of red. Main subject? Men we have loved and men we would like to love. There's a certain fellow at the bfi who better watch out when Ms Kim is wearing that frock on Tuesday! A certain award winning film director too the way she is feeling...

My desk-mate Jim has returned from the ash cloud. So nice to have him back taking the mick out of my cooking. I've got some left over pie for lunch and I admit, it doesn't look very appetising after a journey in on the bus. I did like Jim's observation though that the little "biscuits" that top the pie look like miniature scones.

Cary Grant's Tuna Fish Pie

Mmmm. The Tuna Pie was good. Little pastry biscuits on top. Yum, yum. I'm looking for an alternative Cary recipe for the book to replace the apple pie. He's got some good ones too. He's a man who loved his fish. This could be the one. Chicken of the Sea in a pie.

It's a busy week this week and I SHOULD be making some Bette Davis marmalade tonight but there is just too much to do. I guess it can wait until the weekend. I'm cat sitting for Paulette and Ivor and they do have a lovely big kitchen for cooking. Would it be mad to take my biddy-bag trolley full of jam jars round there and make the marmalade in Paulette's nice copper preserving pan?

Cary Grant's Steak a la Victor Hugo

"You're just a bunch of molecules until you know who you are."

I'm trying to work it out Cary, honestly I am...

So the double boiler was put to its second use of the weekend - attempting for a second time to make the weirdo sauce that TWO stars have published as a favourite recipe. It didn't work this time either...

CURDLING seems to be my problem. Both the custard and the sauce came out as a kind of semolina textured gloop. Perhaps, as with Claudette, gentleness is the key. I'll have another go sometime. I'm sure that the sauce would be mighty fine - especially as it has a tonne of horseradish in it - but it needs to have a smooth saucy texture rather than being like porridge.

Anyhow, in proper Silver Screen Suppers fashion I watched "An Affair to Remember" with my steak and porridge. Deborah Kerr was wearing some cool frocks I must say. And of course, I did shed a tear when the wheelchair was brought out. However, I liked her better as a sassy blonde in the film I watched later that evening, "From Here to Eternity". Where is the Montgomery Clift recipe I say?
